Immersive technology is described as technology that extends reality or creates a new reality by leveraging the 360 space around you. To many, this still seems new, but we have actually been toying with the idea of vr immersion for some time now.
Immersive technologies include...
- Virtual Reality (VR)
- Augmented Reality (AR)
- Extended Reality (XR)
- 360
- Mixed Reality (MR)
You might have already used basic AR in apps like Snapchat or Pokemon Go, or likely explored the visuals in headsets such as Oculus or Playstation VR. I don't think these technologies have even begun to shine the way that they will in the coming years. Most people will immediately associate anything remotely immersive with the video game industry, but this technology is being developed and invested in multiple industries (education, retail, finance, military, etc). We don't see a high volume of commercial VR/AR as of now, and that could be due to many reasons (personally i think it simply hasn't been refined enough to be consumed at a commercial level). Given the restrictions of COVID-19 and the psychological rewiring that these restrictions have done to millions of Americans, I believe that when the timing is right Immersive technology will dominate, and people will adapt with ease and enthusiasm. Thoughts? Beliefs? Facts?
